Search box disappeared from the Toolbar (I saw it go, but don't know what I did). In the customize box, there is only a "find" magnifying glass icon. When I move that to the toolbar, it does nothing.

Thanks in advance

Hi   !

Would you try the   "Restore Defaults"   button at the bottom of the Customize tab and see if that will bring it back   ?

I did that and the search box was back but everything else was gone! even when I checked "menu toolbar" and favorites toolbar!

But then I closed FF and opened it again and everything was back!!

Thank you!!

Note that you may have accidentally removed button(s) from the Navigation Toolbar.

If you right-click a toolbar item in normal (non-customize) mode then you can remove this item from the toolbar.

  • "Remove from Toolbar" will remove this item from the Navigation Toolbar and moves it to the Customize palette ("3-bar" Firefox menu button -> Customize)
  • "Move to Menu" will move this item to the "3-bar" Firefox menu button drop-down list
  • "Move to Toolbar" in the "3-bar" Firefox menu button drop-down list will move this item to the toolbar

I have tried everything - infuriatingly, when on Customize page, the Search box shows up as normal. As soon as I Exit Customize, it disappears !

After many attempts I finally restored the search box by typing about:studies in the address and just lightly "tapping" the enter key. Every other time I tried I got the error message "invalid address" After that I followed the instructions and unchecked the box allowing Firefox to put me into these studies then clicked the "remove" box and everything went back the way it had been. I gave Firefox a very bad review for doing this and not letting me know how to undo it.

Well thanks pitbull - can't imagine how you stumbled on that one ! Actually, I managed to do a restore of Firefox using MozBackup - that did the trick. (First couple of times I tried that it didn't work - persevere..........)
