I make a firefox shortcut to my desktop for Facebook, no problem. When i pin it to my taskbar, it just makes a firefox shortcut to my default web page. I just want a shortcut to Facebook on the taskbar, on click and i'm there. Help please

Thank you

Sorry, I misread the word Facebook as Firefox.

When I drag a webpage shortcut to the Taskbar, Windows 7 offers to add it to the "jump list" for the pinned Firefox shortcut. That's the list which appears when I right-click the icon. Screenshot attached for illustration. Does Windows 10 do that?

To create a program-style shortcut to Facebook that can stand-alone on the Taskbar, try this:

Select and copy this command line:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -url https://www.facebook.com/

right-click a blank area of the desktop, click New, then shortcut

Paste the command line and click Next

Enter something like Facebook and click Finish

You'll notice the icon is the Firefox icon, and while you can go into Properties and click Chance Icon, I don't know how to get the actual Facebook icon there.

Then you should be able to pin it. Due to the way Firefox works, Facebook will open in your existing session and the thumbnail will appear above the regular Firefox icon.

On Windows 7; Open Firefox. Make sure the icon is 'pinned' to the taskbar. Now open the browser to whatever page you want. After the page is loaded, mouse to the address bar and hold down the left button on the icon. Move the icon to the pinned Firefox icon and drop in on top. Right-click to use.

Hi Bandsawbilly, I would expect the icon to do exactly the same thing whether it's on the desktop or pinned to the Taskbar. Then again, I don't use Windows 10... (still Windows 7).

Could you try pinning it a different way and see whether this works:

In the search box, paste the following path and press Enter to load the folder in Windows Explorer:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\

Scroll down to firefox.exe (if you single-click any file and type fir Windows should jump down to that file).

Right-click firefox.exe and see whether you have a Pin to Taskbar option. I guess you might see Unpin from Taskbar. If you see that, try Unpin and then Pin again.

Any improvement?

jscher2000,

Thank you sooooooo very much. I didn't think of using the command line like that... BTW i use opera once in a while. I used "C:\Program Files "(x86)\Opera\46.0.2597.57\resources" for the icon on the desktop. you must change the check the short cut as "read only" or the icon will not follow it to the taskbar.
