You will have to try to contact the developer, Jan Janetka, who hasn't even updated his add-on since 2011, let alone migrate it to Webextensions.

Unfortunately nothing Mozilla can do about it (sorry ......)

but the new version was released today (57) .earlier when i was using 56 version pinger worked fine. i have no idea. now my concern is i want the pinger add-on for version 57 too. I can't proceed with my work and this issue is like a blocker to my progress.

Firefox 1-56 used XUL technology to build extensions (now referred to as "legacy extensions") and Mozilla has moved over to the WebExtensions technology. WebExtensions are incompatible with earlier versions of Firefox thus the reason your pinger add-on isn't working.

I totally understand your frustration, but again :

You will have to contact the developer.

The fact that his add-on, which he hasn't updated since 2011, worked fine for you : amazing  ! But the developer didn't migrate his add-on to Webextensions - and he must have known that only webextensions will work with Firefox 57+.

Nothing Mozilla can do about it - but maybe you'd like to try that link I gave you and see if you can find an alternative  ?
