Enormously frustrating behavior. While playing on chess on chess.com using Mozilla Firefox, the page showing the board reloads the previous page, never allowing me to actually make the next move. I ave lost tens og games because the continous Web page reload runs out the clock.

Note that on another computer running Firefox under Windows Vista !! this NEVER happen. I run Firefox in safe mode on Win 10. The misbehavior seems to be less severe for a short while, but it comes back with a vengeance. Not sure if it is a Chess.com issue (running Flash??) or Windows 10 or Firefox. But it is profoundly annoying and frustrating!!

As long as that page doesn't require a logon, what page are you having that problem with? The URL, please.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

You can create a new profile to test if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.

I tried the above suggestions (Safe mode, new profile) and the problem reoccurs.

Under Vista it does not happen. In Windows 10 it happens. Used to happen in Windows 7 ( with Firefox)

Only happens when I am playing on www. chess.com.

I have disabled all add-ons multiple times, ran malware and virus detection just in case and they come back clean no virus, no malware!!). At a loss!! Here is the page I am on https://www.chess.com/live?#g=2451693532

When it jumps backward I can only use the right arrow to get back to the game. I also noticed that behind all the Web pages, multiple red bannered messages saying "error processing your request please try again", leaving me wondering what I can do about it

Maybe there is a problem with the cookies and the website tries to fall back to its main page.

Do you have n=any extensions that deal with cookies?

So I have Firefox 57.0 64 bits under Windows 10. I have disabled all extensions and restarted in Safe mode. I play www.chess.com. I have been able to logon via Facebook for a few years.

I star the gamer and then soon thereafter I get this very very very annoying jump from the current page ( where I play) to some previous page within the chess.com site. I use the right arrow and get back to my page often in a strange way with the chess board flipped !!!. But worse, as my mouse starts to choose a piece the page disappears again. Or if I drop my piece ( the sound is enabled for feedback) on a square, there is no sound feedback and I know that the move will not be performed. I also notice that hidden behind the other Web pages, several red bannered messages state: "Error processing your request please try again!!". I am not sure what to do. These symptoms do not occur when running Firefox under Vista. So I am not sure if there is a bug in Firefox or Chess.com. This strange behavior is only occurring when I play chess.com, not when i surf the Web. So it has to do with the chess.com site. I notice also often a slow response. I have upgraded my RAM to 32GB so it is not a physical constraint if it has ever been!! As for cookies, I am very careful to allow only well authenticated sites, and I often clear all history. I even tried a New profile under Firefox It has not help. Thank you for any help

Yes about cookies but no you need to clear them for chess.com please as it could be the cookie that is causing the issue so we want you to get a new cookie.

Other option since nothing going here is to contact Chess.com or look at their support page or if none are you playing live and can you chat with someone, ask them if have same issue.

They have had this issue before https://support.chess.com/customer/portal/topics/620383-technical-support/articles

https://www.chess.com/forum/view/help-support/live-chess-wont-stop-loading

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Thank you for the suggestions I will try to clear cookies and history. Alas I just discovered that this issue may be with Firefox as another Web site ( BNP bank) which is my French bank ( which I rarely use) causes me to lose what I am typing by jumping to a previous page within the site : in this case I lose all work when I use thge right arrow to try to come back to the working page. So it has to be a bug in Firefox. I will try another browser and compare behaviors.

Thank you

Are you using any content blocking extensions that might interfere?

HI Cor-el: Super thanks for helping with this nagging issue!

I have seen this annoying behavior it for years with Mozilla, not just this version). Since I play chess regularly n chess.com, I thought it was Adobe Flash's super slow scripting or a bug in chess.com so I just (and for the hundredth time) disabled all extensions, cleared ALL history and cookies and restarted Firefox in Safe mode (add-ons disabled). The bewildering page-hopping still occurs and today at least not just with chess.com. Please note that Mozilla 52.0 (on my Windows Vista PC) does not show this behavior. I would like to fault Windows 10, but the Web page jumping also occurred under Windows 7. So it seems to point to Firefox, not Windows (for the moment). Of course chess .com, could also be overwhelmed, but not in such a consistent fashion. I should add that I rebooted my machineseveral times afterI ran full strength Malware+Virus software. All negative! But I will try other browsers before I can definitely say more. Again Thank you!!
