Although not as straight forward as your post suggested it could be, I did find your post very helpful indeed, and eventually after some hours of playing around, I think the issue is now sorted. I upgraded to v57.02 per your recommendation, and eventually got the interface and bookmarks working ok. I am most grateful. Strangely, installing 57.02 changed my screen resolution, and as I am partially sighted, it took some time and focus to get everything back to the state that best for my vision. I must say hoiwever, that I do miss the coloured BIG buttons that I had with my older FF version, but those types of add-ons do not seem to work anymore with later FF versions. Shame.

There is one outstanding issue however, and that is my inability to get my Firefox for Andoid to synch properly with my Desktop bookmarks. It is picking up an older bookmark set. Do you have any advice for me about this please? I tried deleting Firefox on my phone, and re-installing, but it still synchs with my older bookmark set.

You can change the password for the Sync account to reset/remove all data stored on the Sync server.

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync while performing maintenance/repair efforts to files in the Firefox profile folder.

Thank you again ... but I am back to Square 1 now, with the Original Post problem happening at all times.

1. When I open Firefox 57.0.02 it displays an old bookmark set

2. Recover does not work - brings up an old bookmark set

3. Import does work - but have to do this EVERY time I open Firefox.
