Hi, this may vary a bit depending on your Windows version, but try: Right click an empty space on your Desktop > Personalization > (Background - on left), now on the right-hand side under Related Settings, select High contrast settings, and under High contrast (choose a theme), select None. Also make sure that Apply color filter is Off.

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please help other users by marking the best reply as Solved. Thank you!

I LOVE YOU! Thanks--most of the Go Heres weren't quite the same on my POS hp laptop but I eventually was able to muddle through and get rid of the black so I can at least read the screen.

It's actually too-bright white but since I was originally TRYING to adjust the contrast, this is better. I (and my adult daughters) call me a Luddite because I still don't know so much about computers and am still a little nervous about "playing" with all the controls, etc., which is ironic because when I'm not on strike, I'm the "manager" of one of the major online programs for my LAUSD school! Thank you again, Scribe!
