Firefox for Android how do I sort bookmarks?
After many failed attempts with add-ons I come to this forum to ask this basic question. How can I sort bookmarks either alphabetically or manually? I don't understand how such a basic function can be missing from any browser????
Also there seems to be some problem in the Firefox "system" where it thinks I'm looking for desktop applications despite the fact that all of my queries are initiated through the Android browser.

Hi
As mentioned, this functionality is not available in Firefox for Android at the present time, but may follow in a future update.
In the meantime, one way to organise your bookmarks (that I use) is to sort them on a desktop copy of Firefox and sync them across using a Firefox Account.

Hi
At the present time, there is no way to auto-sort bookmarks in Firefox for Android. You can manually organise them into folders furtehr to the guide here but sorting bookmarks is a feature that may be included in a future update.
It doesn't need to be automatically sorted I just need the ability to manually move the visual position of the bookmark up or down. I might have at most 20 bookmarks that I'll use in my entire life and just having them sorted on the home screen would be very helpful. Creating folders for these just moves the problem to a different location because I presume you cannot sort within a folder either. I suppose you mean to have a separate folder for each individual bookmark but if so, that's not practical. I'm puzzled by this lack of functionality that is such a basic requirement of all browsers since I can remember. Is there some new way of achieving this function nowadays ? Thank you v much for your reply.

Hi,
Sorting bookmarks, 5 years later...
Still no fix for this.
I am so sad.
Please follow this issue: https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/fenix/issues/4348
The only way to sort your bookmarks on Firefox Android is to first sort them on your Windows version of Firefox and then sync across your Firefox accounts. I assume this will work for other operating systems, but someone will have to try it.
Also, though there is a folder called Desktop Toolbar in the Android version, it will not appear at the top of the browser like in Windows. Firefox Android treats it as just another Bookmarks Folder.
A previous post advised to sort on the desktop version of Firefox, which confused me as I didn't know that the poster was referring to the Windows version.
It is odd that such a basic function is missing from the Android version.
Such a seemingly simple task...oh well. Thanks for the info.

Personnally, i prefer to install less add-ons
as possible, because each of them can slowdown the browser, and it is an open door, where bad people could follow a breach,
to enter in our private datas...
Firefox has always say they want to
provide us a private and protected web.
So i really hope Firefox's programmers
will create an easy switch in parameters,
to fix this. So that we don't need to download and try
many potentially dangerous add-ons...
The ideal switch would let us choose sorting order of our bookmarks, in 4 ways :
- by A to Z (they call it natural sorting). - by Z to A - by time ascending - by time descending
I have 1 to 3 thousand bookmarks,
and they are in more than 500 folders .
So it is impossible to sort them manually...
I do a lot of searching for my job and need to keep it for further references.
So it is really important to have that sorting function.
I need descending order too, because if i know that it would be
near the end of the list, i would go by descending order
to find it faster...
So please, if you know what is the good string
i will have to modify in " about:config "...
let me know! I would be so glad !
