I have one contact that sends me emails to my aol email address with inline images. If I go to the mail.aol.com site I can see the images inline with the text. If I use my iphone I can see the images inline with the text. If I use Thunderbird I see the images as jpg and png attachments; not inline. (I have the view, Display attachments inline checked) This problem appears only with this one sender. He uses yahoo mail. Help please.

and if attachments inline is not checked?

Are the messages image heavy? like a dozen images and basically no text between them? I have seen anti virus product block images where they all come from a same site and there are a lot of them.

There are 5 images with each smaller than 50kb. I turned off Avast antivirus, but that didn't help.

I did some further experimentation and the problem is isolated to:

1) being sent from Yahoo email (the same email sent either from mail.aol.com or gmail does not cause problems)

2) being received by Thunderbird on my Windows 10 PC (no problems receiving the identical message on my iPhone)

Here is the problem simplified in a picture. I sent an email from my yahoo mail account with two inline images to my aol email account.

The images are displayed correctly inline using the mail.aol.com website.

The images are displayed incorrectly below the email using Thunderbird.

My guess it has something to do with the way the email is formed. But if you forward the email as an attachment to matt_au@gmx.com I will have a look at see if I can figure it out.

Note that is use forward as attachment (the arrow beside the forward button has a menu with it on.)

Attachment sent. Thanks!

I have had a look and can't figure it out. So if I get some more time latter I will try again. But it is to do with the way the images are references in the body of the email, I think. The images use CID and that has always been a bit flaky as far as I can tell.
