I have an iMac 3.2GHz Core i5, running OS Catalina 10.15.3 and Thunderbird 68.4.2 (64-bit). The problem I have is that Thunderbird keeps not responding with the multicoloured spinning disc and there's nothing for it except to Force Quit it and start again. It's done it 5 times today, so far, and it seems to happen just after I send an email. It's almost like I have to wait until it's finished sending, and I mean do NOTHING until it's finished sending, and then it's usually OK. But if I do anything else, like look at another email, or go to another folder, it just crashes. So far, all emails that is was sending when it froze have actually been sent. But it's still a pain in the a**e! Can anyone offer any help or suggestion? Nik

Do you have an antivirus program set to scan the TB profile folder? Can you post the URLs of recent crash reports in the Crash Reports section of Help/Troubleshooting?

I have a free version of AVG Antivirus without any particular settings. However, this has only been happening for the last 6 months or so and, regarding crash reports ... there are none!

I don't know if AVG free has the Mail Shield, but if so, disable it as well as SSL scanning. A good test of whether startup apps such as AV are causing TB problems is to run in OS X safe mode.

OK, I will try that and see if it makes any difference.
