Why blocks Firefox instead of popups printig?

more options

When I want to print a page of Firefox I get the response: "Firefox is blocking popups". When I try to change this, I get the mask for exception, but only for websites, not for things like printing. Why do I need a popup to print, why can't I define printing as exception?

Hi Andreas, when a web page offers you a print button, it may plan to show a new version of the page better formatted for printing, and it may do that in a popup so you don't lose your place in that tab. Firefox should automatically allow popup windows that are opened in a direct response to a click, but if the script does other things in between, that can break the direct connection and require an exception.

When you print by clicking the Print button in Firefox's menu, then no popup windows should be involved at all. But the page format might not be the same.

Does that help in deciding whether to grant an exception? Here's another way to do it:

The easiest way to make an exception for a site is to use the Page Info dialog. While you are on the relevant page, you can call that up using either:

  • Ctrl+i (for Mac, Command+i)
  • right-click a blank area of the page > View Page Info
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info

When the dialog comes up, click the Permission icon at the top to show that panel.

Popups - Scroll down to "Open Pop-up Windows" and uncheck the "Use default" box, and then select Allow to let the site open popups.

If you want to revoke that permission later, click the lock icon and check the drop-down showing the custom permissions for the site. Or you can use the Page Info dialog again.
