Stop Thunderbird nag updates

I went back to a previous version of Thunderbird so that I could use the add-on Calendar Tweaks which has capabilities not in Thunderbird and will not work with the latest version. All is well but I am constantly nagged about downloading the latest update. I have read a number of posts to try and stop the nag and the consensus is to do the following 

   Type 'Run' in search and select 'Run' app
   In 'Run' app type regedit and click on Ok
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies
   Create new subkey called 'Mozilla'
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Mozilla
   Then create new subkey called 'Thunderbird'
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Mozilla\Thunderbird
   On the right, create a new 32-Bit DWORD value DisableAppUpdate.
   Note: Even if you are running 64-bit Windows you must still create a 32-bit DWORD value.
   Set its value to 1.

The problem is that when I try and create the subkey Mozilla under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies, the subkey doesn't go under 'Policies' but under 'Microsoft'. Even though I have selected HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies, and hit NEW with this selected, the subkey is attached to Microsoft, not Policies.

What I said above is what happens. I try to get Mozilla as a subkey ro Policies but it winds up as a subkey to Microsoft. When I select Microsoft, Mozilla is shown as a subkey. I was able to fix the problem in a simple way. Adobe was one of the policies subkeys and I didn't need it as I have deleted all my Adobe programs. I just renamed that subkey and deleted everything related to Adobe and then added the DisableAppUpdate subkey. Looks like it has worked in stopping the nags.

Never heard of such a problem. I think you misunderstand what is supposed to happen. The HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies key has subkeys underneath it, and Microsoft is one of them. They are listed alphabetically, so Mozilla should come after the Microsoft subkey. It seems you expect Mozilla to appear immediately below Policies, that's not going to happen UNLESS Mozilla is the only subkey under Policies.
