I have two people of the same surname that have the same email address as, they are married. Even though I have both persons with their own entries in my address book, whenever I send an email to the woman and it clearly has her name in the To: entry and goes out that way, it appears as the man's name every time in the sent box?

strange as it may appear to you. there is a single email address being used, so the mail is going to the right address. but if you go to options and search on address. Turn off the show only display names for people in my address book.

Thunderbird uses the display name of the first entry it finds in the address book. Turning it off just changes what you see, nothing else.

Hi Matt, Thank you, however, your instructions are too vague for me to act on as, I have a Mac and I need to know a stop by step description in order to be able to do this. Options where exactly etc.

many thanks

I think apple call them preferences. But your on your own with apple I do not do apple anything. I do not even use my wifes apple products.

But this might help you. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Menu_differences_in_Windows,_Linux,_and_Mac

Given more that 80% of Thunderbird users use windows you as a minority operating system user need to be familiar with the differences. Then you can translate the information on the web to your needs.

The rest of you may catch up one day to Mac's and Apple's privacy, and OSX's, which are far less intrusive than Windows :)

Have sorted out issue now by deciphering your original post.

Thanks :)

I am familiar with the apple shell games. Security through obscurity, vendor lock in and no more reliability that the other major operating systems. I watch it in my own home on a daily basis, batteries that magically go from 80% to Zero in seconds, apps that will not launch until you let the battery go flat. No taking a battery out of an apple. Calls that just drop out and security that only exists in the USA etc.

You are obviously an adherent of the Apple manifesto, good for you. But telling me I will catch up to a standard set by Cupertino is not helpful at all.

Just to be clear I am not just a bigot against apple products, I really object to paying more for a logo, or green paint. But generally the myth of the apple secure island is eroding. Forbes https://www.forbes.com/sites/daveywinder/2020/02/11/platform-wars-2020-apple-security-threats-outpace-microsoft-windows-for-first-time/ Toms Guide https://www.tomsguide.com/news/mac-vs-windows-security

Or expert commentary here https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/privacy-macos-or-windows-we-asked-the-experts/ “Despite a popular perception that Apple is a security and privacy-conscious developer, the reality is that MacOS is a closed source platform,” he said. “This means that Mac users are ultimately at the whim of the tech giant, and it is hard to state with any confidence exactly what kind of telemetry Apple might (or might not) be acquiring via its operating system.”

My preference is for freedom, so I do not us apple products. Do not mistake ambivalence and disinterest for more than it is.

Ha, ha, Windows is just a poor system in my view. I do not miss Google constantly wanting to to download stuff and constant ads and pop ups and viruses trying to get in. I do not get all off that using a Mac and iPhone. All systems have flaws, but Microsoft Windows I used for many, many years and then changed to Mac's about 17 years ago and it's just easier and less intrusive and smooth to use. Enjoy what you like. Have a good day!
