Thunderbird stopped working on December 31, 2021
I have used the Thunderbird product for 5+ years. I use it to download email from my Earthlink e-mail account on to my Windows computer (Microsoft Surface).
Beginning on December 31, the Thunderbird program stopped communicating with my Earthlink webmail account. I have checked all the POP settings and they are correct. However, when I start up Thunderbird, I get a message at the lower left saying "connected to pop.earthlink.net . . . " After about a minute or two, I get a message that the connection with pop.earthlnk.net timed out.\ This has been going on for five days.
Did something change at the start of the new year that would cause this communication problem? Any thoughts on what I can do to fix this and not lose e-mails I already downloaded on to my hard drive from the past few years?

Assuming all your other connections work - to other websites, and you can log in to Earthlink's webmail - I would check with Earthlink support - the message you mention sounds as if their POP server is not available (timed out...). It's also possible they changed the authentication required - if you get support, ask them about that. Also try turning off your virus software, just briefly as a test, in case firewall or something is blocking Thunderbird. Report back please.
