I created a new Gmail account with the IMAP server a while back when forced to by Gmail, but i retained my old Gmail/POP server account in Thunderbird to retain the old messages. (IMAP would wipe them out.) The new Gmail/IMAP works fine but Thunderbird constantly tries to log into the old POP account and repeatedly sends me alerts that "log-in failed," asking me to enter a new password, etc.

Is there a way to keep this old POP account -- or at least all the old messages in it -- in my Thunderbird, but inactive so Thunderbird doesn't keep trying to log me in?

Thank you for any suggestions.

Here is a simple approach: - click Help>moretroubleshootinginformation - scroll down to Profile Folder, click 'open folder' - exit Thunderbird - click to Mail folder and then the account folder. - here you should see message folders (e.g., INBOX and INBOX.msf). Copy them to the Mail\Local Folders folder. - restart Thunderbird and confirm that all folders are accessible to your satisfaction. - you may now remove the POP account.
