I am makinmg some changes to the accounts on Thunderbird.

When I add an account all goes well until I close Thunderbird. When re-opening the account is not there.

When I delete an account all goes well until I close Thunderbird. When re-opening the account is still there.

Other than that all is working well.

Check to see if something is interfering with thunderbird files. What you describe indicates that the prefs.js file (the one that keeps all of that info), is not being allowed to update at closure of thunderbird. That is sometimes obvious if there are multiple prefs.js files in the profile. I have no solution, if that is happening, other than to suggest seeing if antivirus or other software is interrupting thunderbird at shut down.
