Boookmarks lost and "Bookmark this page" button (Ctl D) not working. Suggested solutions in firefox forum did not solve problem.

All existing Bookmarks have disappeared from Firefox including bookmark backup info. Also the "Bookmark this page" button (Ctl D) no longer works so I cannot re-input any bookmarks. I have tried all the suggested solutions in the Bookmarks troubleshooting forum on Firefox but none of them solved the problem.
