I recently downloaded and installed Firefox 3.6.8 and all of my bookmarks disappeared. How do I get them back?

I recently installed Firefox 3.6.8 on my computer and had to reboot. When I did the reboot, all of my bookmarks had disappeared, all 30-40 of them. How can I get them back. Some are very difficult to get and almost impossible to find again. I am using a Dell with windows XP.
