since the last automatic update a couple of days ago, my whole computer freezes (and not just temporarily) when i try to run firefox. i am on a windows xp machine, have really loved my whole firefox experience to this point, and would really, really, really like a fix.

I have this problem as well. It started after the most recent Firefox update. One machine is an old AMD 2200 single core processor and the other is a Q6600 Intel quad core processor. Both on XP SP3 with all current updates. Alt-Tab will switch between open program icons, but the system will not switch to the programs. Ctrl-Alt-Del has no effect. The cursor will move, but it will not do anything. I have to power cycle the computer to shut it down.

I started having this problem as well. But then I noticed that anytime an update became available everything would freeze and sometimes go to a blank blue screen. A few minutes ago I had firefox on my other monitor, moved it back and it froze. After a power cycle and re-launching firefox it installed n update for the no-script add-on. This has happened throughout the past 6 months and each time firefox was updating an add-on.
