I don't think bringing up Firefox with your system would be a good idea, but it doesn't really appear to be the question. Firefox changed the default home page from a Google search page to one that is marketed as on your machine and named about:home If you actually started with GMail, you would have had your own home page, and would I believe have been unaffected. But you had a Google search page that had a link at the top to your GMail if I'm not mistaken.
