I'd like to remove firefox sync as it has caused problems with my Gmail and google appearance on my PC.
Since activating firefox sync my gmail has lost features and it's appearance has no graphic. I'd like to remove or turn off sync and have my pc return to how it was before sync.

As long as you are using the current version of firefox Firefox 7 sync is part of the browser. If you use the old version Firefox 3.6 sync was an add-on. If you have the add-on it may be removed see uninstalling add-ons

Activating sync should not be affecting the look of websites or webmail pages, possibly it is a separate problem.
Have you made other changes such as turning off javascript ?
go to "Firefox" (in the top bar), preferences, sync, and unlist your computer. The screen should then look like it did before you registered.
Careful...I don't know if you will need to keep your original key (PW) but I would save it in case you need to use the same key if you re-register.
