A flash drive, or your external drive that you use to backup all your data would work better. With a CD you have to be careful of what utilities that you use to do the copying with or you end up with read-only (write protected) files.

Also I think you would much prefer to copy your entire profile over than just your bookmarks.

On your old and your new computers you can find your profile through about:support typed into the location bar (or Help > Troubleshooting information...) and then click on the "Open Containing folder". With Firefox down, you would simply copy your profile to external device, then on new system remove the content in your (Firefox) profile and replace it with the contend from the old computer -- also with Firefox down.

You might consider copying a lot of your c:\users\ folders over selectively then your email and other applications user data on your machine, would be copied. Having two working machines is a lot easier to work with than an old backup or no backup. You can even connect the two machines through wi-fi and copy data.
