Since version 21 was downloaded, I can't download anything without Firefox crashing. It never comes up and I have to close everything out. I've tried resetting (4 times) and reinstalling. This has been going on for over a month and I'm about to just give up on the software entirely after years.

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing when you open it. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash (I have assumed you are running .Windows, if not, let us know).

  1. Press the following shortcut to get a Run window: [Windows] + [R]. This should bring up a window that contains a text field.
  2. In that text field, enter %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
  3. From that explorer window, double-click on the Mozilla folder, then double-click on Firefox and then on Crash reports. Double-click on submitted.
  4. Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to View > Arrange Icons by > Modified to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
  5. Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
  6. Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.

Thanks in advance!

It is possible that anti-virus software is corrupting downloaded files or is otherwise interfering with downloading files.

Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.

See:

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

Unfortunately, the crash files are all old. I don't know if I'm getting crash files as its hanging (freezing completely) and I have to force it closed.

There are hundreds in the pending folder. I mean hundreds (264 since January). The majority are since the latest revision updated in April - 5 from 5/28; 10 from 5/20. I've pretty much stopped using Mozilla if I know downloads are necessary so it only happens when I check to see if the problem persists.
