I would like to have my bookmarks on my Windows 7 toolbar. Currently i can have this with IE and the favorites folder. I have not been able to find a folder for bookmarks in FF to put into my toolbar. I prefer quick access to my favorites without having to open a browser first. Is there any way to do this?

Hi Basic Farmer,

I do not often use Windows 7, but I do not think this can be done.

However a possible work around exists.

IE presumably uses HTML files to store favourites (US favorites) . Firefox may export the bookmarks in this format. You presumably could then place that wherever you want and use it in the Windows 7 toolbar.

But

  • Such bookmarks would only be as up to date as the last export.
  • You loose features such as tags, and any smart folders
  • There is no overall time saving if you are going to navigate to the book marked page, as Firefox still needs to open to enable you to do that.

Did the idea work ? Please post back with how you got on.

Exporting an HTML file and putting that in the Windows favorites folder just put an HTML file in the folder nothing more. After playing around with it i found that some of the shortcuts opened IE and some opened in FF. The ones that opened in EE i just copied the URL into FF and then dragged that URL into the favorites folder. Then it opened in FF. Problem seems to be solved. It appears that the windows favorites folder does not care what the browser is. IE saves its favorites in this folder but the folder is just a folder.

I thought you may have been specifically trying to put a bespoke folder on the toolbar or menu list.

HTML files themselves may be edited or viewed in many word processors and files easily moved between folders. As someone not using Windows 7 much I do not know if headers detail in the HTML files differ, I would have assumed Firefox and IE HTML files were mostly interchangeable.
