I purchased a new computer HP Windows 7 Pro, 3GHz, 4GB DDR3 Ram, 500GB WD HD and I installed FF26. It will not allow me to change the default home page to my own, it always shows two tabs loaded with the Mozilla FF Start Page. I have edited the about:config and it has no effect on the page loaded at launch. I have uninstalled and re-installed FF26 and that has had no effect. I need assistance in getting this issue resolved please.

Some security and utility software has a "browser protection", "home page protection" or "surfing protection" feature that protects you from changes to your browser settings. And blocks you from changing them yourself. Could you check for this possibility in avast!, Advanced SystemCare (if you have it), and any other software that might be keeping an eye on your system?

If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:

Do you have other software installed on your computer that might be protecting files in the Firefox profile folder?

Boot the computer in Windows Safe Mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that has any effect.
