I am using Eudora 7 to handle 6 email accounts on a Windows XP SP3 machine. I want to install Thunderbird on the same machine and import the email addresses. I have Eudora setup to store the data files for each email address in a different data directory. This allows me to have a different icon on the desktop for each email account. Clicking on an icon starts Eudora with the email address data stored in a specific directory.

What I don't know is how to have Thunderbird import the different email addresses from Eudora to Thunderbird and how to keep the individual email address data separate in Thunderbird.

Any help would be appreciated.

To backup a little here. When you install Thunderbird it will import your Eudora mail and settings (in so much as they relate to Thunderbird). So I suggest you initially import your mail (It does not affect Eudora) and see if it makes a mess of your setup or not. I am punting not.

You should end up with a folder in the folder pane with Eudora and your folder structure below that.

The major difference Thunderbird to Eudora is Thunderbird does not detach Attachments and store them somewhere else.

Note that I do not think the Thunderbird preference for using the global inbox has been changed, so it defaults to the global inbox for multiple POP mail accounts. Tools menu (Alt+T) > account settings > server settings > advanced button is where the setting to disable use of the global inbox per account is hidden.

Not exactly sure what you want. With Thunderbird you can set-up multiple email accounts in the same profile. The mail will be stored in separate directories in the file system anyway. Simply run the new account wizard to set-up the accounts.

Alternatively you can set-up multiple profile, one for each account and create desktop shortcuts for each profile. That doesn't make much sense for me though.

Please clarify what you want.

I had an icon on my old desktop for each email address with Eudora simply because I could not find any other way to do it I admit using multiple icons and multiple profiles in Thunderbird may not be the best idea. Right now, I am searching for the best way to incorporate multiple email addresses into Thunderbird. One basic requirement is to keep the emails and attachments separate for each account. I am more than willing to accept your advice on the best way to it. You asked in your reply that you were not exactly sure what I want. I am listing my two basic needs: 1. I need to import Eudora 7 from a XP Pro machine to Thunderbird on a Win 7 Pro x64 machine. If Eudora 7 would work on Win 7, it would be helpful. Would XP Virtual Mode on Win7 help? 2. The best way to incorporate multiple email addresses on Thunderbird.

I never used Eudora, so I can't tell much about it. In any case, I believe it's dead.

Wrt multiple accounts in Thunderbird, there isn't much you can do wrong. Simply run the new account wizard and set-up the accounts you want (one at a time).

If any of your accounts are POP ones, make sure not to enable Global Inbox to keep them separate.

Would you recommend importing Eudora to Thunderbird on an XP machine or moving Eudora to a Win 7 Pro x64 machine first? This of course assumes Eudora 7 will install on a Win 7 machine.

Thanks for the help!

I think it would be much easier importing from Eudora first on your existing machine, and then move the TB profile to the new machine.

I concur, but I also think Eudora will not run on your new machine.
