Dear Volunteer,

After I updated to Firefox 43 the browser crashes within 1-2 seconds each time I try to open it - even in Safe Mode. When I downgrade to Firefox 42 it works fine with or without Add-Ons (by memory these were No-Script and StumbleUpon). Firefox 44 beta also crashes. I don't know what has changed between versions 43 and 42 but I am using Chrome now since it does not crash (this request is being completed using Chrome). I prefer to use Firefox, however. As a result, I cannot add the troubleshooting information requested.

After each crash I allow the crash routine to gather information but it always reports that there is a problem submitting the report. My crash ID is Crash ID: bp-19a3b7fe-1db3-464c-8b87-cdf0c2101001. No other piece of software is exhibiting any similar issues.

I would be very grateful for any help. Best Regards,

Tim Olson

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing when you open it. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.

  1. On the keyboard, press [Windows] The image "Windows key" does not exist. + [R]. This should bring up a Run window that contains a text field.
  2. In that text field, type %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
  3. From that explorer window, double-click on the Mozilla folder, then double-click on Firefox and then on Crash reports. Double-click on submitted.
  4. Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to View > Arrange Icons by > Modified to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
  5. Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
  6. Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.

Thanks in advance!

You can find more information and troubleshooting steps in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article.

Dear Tyler,

Thanks for the extraordinarily quick reply.

As I mentioned in my original message - the browser stubbornly refuses to submit crash reports. Hence, there is nothing in the "Submitted" folder you pointed me to. However, in the sister folder "Pending" are the following which are dated after the move to FF 43:

bp-a277e734-0e44-4b3c-8c82-88c7991d46bb bp-170089e1-dd76-4dae-8831-43e40087ca42 bp-71220d2f-5b0a-4b83-8be6-c152d388e184 bp-7efb2de3-aaa1-463f-a3f9-4227d03a9c69

All earlier ones are > 1 year old.

I hope that this is the data that you were looking for. Again, I appreciate your effort and am amazed by the briskness of your response!

Regards,

Tim Olson

Every one of the "report ID's" is invalid - they were never submitted to Mozilla. Can't view them until they're in the crash reports system and we have the complete Report ID #.

You need to submit them manually and then give us the resultant Crash Report ID's. Seeing that Firefox crashes soon after launch, try the Firefox SafeMode to see if Firefox will long enough to submit those reports thru about:sync-log - typed in the URL bar, and hit Enter. Then click on each one to submit it. Firefox Safe Mode - See - How to start Firefox in Safe Mode in that support article.

Dear the-edmeister,

Respectfully, as I mentioned in my original request, FF 43 & 44 crash immediately upon opening, even in safe mode. As I mentioned earlier, the browser will report that "there was a problem submitting the crash report" after each crash so it seems logical that the crash reports will not be in your database - but I responded as closely as I could to the instructions I was given on the hopes that it would provide you the clues you needed. Obviously this was not the case.

I attempted to attach one of the pending crash reports to this reply but received an error message. I will try to paste it into an accompanying response window since it is too large when combined with this text. I hope that this will allow you to help me fix the issue since Firefox is my preferred browser.

Thank you very much in advance for spending the time to help me.

Regards,

Tim Olson

There has been much discussion in the support forum * about FF 43.0.1 and later crashing. The solution seems to be to uninstall Nvidia Forceware Network Access Manager. This is completely asinine. Without that software my PC could not connect to my router. The clue is in the name "Network Access Manager". Firefox is clearly broken. The Nvidia software has been working for years and actually came shipped on CD with my PC. You need to fix FF and stop whingeing about stable, reliable and trusted software.
