On one of my 4 accounts I can't sent or receive emails because I'm getting a message (in image below), saying the server cannot respond to an Unknown Command - It then lists a code which can vary from attempted Email to Email.

GMail@com says this particular account is not verified, although it has been in the past, but I can't verify the acount because their Verification EMail doesn't get through to the account.

This problem only started a few weeks ago. Before there was no problem.

upgraded your google security to use two factor authentication perhaps?

It's not just one Inbox sender. It's everything - sent, junk, draft, deleted, spam, etc., nothing works on this account. Yesterday it appeared as an acceess to enter my Dreamweaver account which already has another mail account to access it. This would indicate the problem account is not dead.

I have 4 gmail email accounts. The settings on all 4 are set the same, but just the one doesn't work. Neither do I have any problems with any of the other Google accounts (other than mail).

What is 'GMail@com'?

Please explain 'not verified' in more detail. What are you doing when you get this?

What is the exact error message?

I have no idea what you're talking about.

This would indicate the problem account is not dead.

What has Dreamweaver got to do with Gmail?

Lets start again. https.gmail.com lists emails that have been verified as belonging to the owner. I have 4 email accounts and 3 work perfectly as far as mail is concerned, the 4th one doesn't work at all and is listed under Google Settings as Unverified. This is where I can't verify it because the verification email Google send goes to the account which isn't working. In Thunderbird all 4 accounts have the same settings. However this rouge email account must be accepted by Google because it's cropped up as one of the means of signing into Dreamweaver. What it's got to do with Dreamweaver I have no idea. The second signin is one of the working mail accounts. Each time I click on the non-working mail account I get the message as in the image below. It can have varing codes. Another problem with Google is the number of times they ask me to change passwords for different accounts appartently for security reasons. I just wish I could talk to someone at Google instead of having to select from a list of question which they assume may be the problem.

Th word shambles come to mind.

Can't you use webmail to verify that account (whatever that means). Whatever that verification thing is about, it's a Gmail thing and has got nothing to do with Thunderbird.

I still don't understand this. Again, I don't see how this is related to Thunderbird.

Each time I click on the non-working mail account I get the message as in the image below. It can have varing codes.

This may be related to the verification issue, but I'm not sure. Complete the account verification (using webmail) and then try again with Thunderbird.

That sounds a little odd, but it's something you'd need to put up with Google.

You know I asked a simple question. Do you use Google two factor authentication. But no reply.

The error message for all intents and purposes could be because you are simply not authenticated with the Gmail server.

So again, to you use two factor authentication? If you do, have you created application passwords for Thunderbird?

Thanks Matt. Followed your instructions no problem, but the Thunderbird rouge account still doesn't work. So I wrote a mail from one of my working accounts to the rouge one, and nothing happens in Thunderbird, but the message is listed in the Google list of messages on Gmail.com. This makes me think the problem is with Thunderbird, however all 4 accounts have identical settings and until some weeks ago, all worked perfectly. I'm not technically minded, so have I accidentally click on something or does it have a connection with the many Thunderbird updates. I'm currently on 45.1.1. (on the release update channel), and it's updating again as I write this.

Now something else. On Gmail.com under Settings then Accounts & Imports, all my 4 accounts were listed - the 3 working ones stated Verified and the rouge one said unverified. The 3 good ones are now missing from the list and it's put the rough one as the main account. Why the change? I've made no changes. Moving on to Dreamweaver, instead of just the Username and Password (which the computer remembered) I have a choice of 2 email accounts - the rouge one opens Dreamweaver after confirming my username and password several times, while one of the good mail accounts opens GMail.com. I've had a form from Google asking which account I would like to open Dreamweaver, but have had no response. So now it seems I have problems with both Thunderbird and Google.

Hopelessly confused !!!!!

Hi Matt,

I'm not technically minded, but I understand the second authorisation involves a phone. There are many occasions when carrying one is not suitable. The other point is why do the 3 working accounts work without it when they have the same settings. Anyway the rouge account is still not working, however Google is still using it. The other day I had a letter from Google (not an email) asking me to change my passwords of 2 email accounts which they have attatched to my Dreamweaver account. One was the rouge email account which still doesn't work even with Dreamweaver and the other working email account which now opens GMail.com and not Dreamweaver, and only works occasionally. It seems Google doesn't know what they are doing and Thunderbird is trying to work it out.

What is happening here is not a lack of technical mindedness that is a basic failure to communicate.

You get asked questions and you answer with irrelevancies and none of the information requested of you.

I will not participate further in this discussion until you provide the troubleshooting information that has been requested of you twice already.

One thing that is abundantly clear is any mention of Dreamweaver is completely and utterly irrelevant. This discussion is about Thunderbird. Please keep it to that subject only.
