Some of the old macbooks have a problem because the unit has (if I understand correctly) two different graphics cards which it dynamically switches between. Unfortunately, the discrete mode tends to fail which causes a hard crash - unit goes dead without any warning. The solution is to force the system to remain in integrated mode. But some software require discrete mode. This was not the case with Thunderbird until the latest update - what has changed and how can I fix it? Thank you!
