How should Thunderbird - vs 17 and later - be configured to send mail (POP server) using Frontier.com account?

Starting about one-week ago I can't get mail to dependably send using a Frontier.com account.

I use three different versions of Thunderbird (17.0.6 and newer) on three different machines. All the same results.

I have been using the same outgoing serving settings for years -- no problems. Frontier insists nothing has changed and recommends using settings which have never worked!

Here are the settings I have been using:

Description: --BLANK Server Name: -- smtp.frontier.com Port: -- 25 Connection Security: -- NONE Authent.. method: -- Password, thansmitted insecurely User name: -- myname@frontier.com

Frontier says to use Port 465, and SSL/TLS -- which have never worked!

Sounds like a problem at Frontier's end, I know -- they insist nothing has changed!

I really like using Thunderbird AND would like to keeping using Frontier email service for the sake of convenience. Any help at understanding this situation and/or getting outgoing server to work would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Frontier suggests smtp.frontier.com on port 465, SSL/TLS security, normal password authentication and your full email address as the User name.

Unless they are providing incorrect information, I would guess that it's not working for you due to an interfering anti-virus or other security program. Try disabling the action of any security program on TB and see if the secure settings work. The insecure settings you currently use have the extra disadvantage that they only work when you are connected to the Frontier network.
