Some of my emails don't arrive immediately, usually in the evening. I always send myself a blind copy.

Lots of ideas. Why? Because there is no guarantee of delivery anywhere in the email specification. So delays can be deliberate on the part of mail providers (some drop connections from new servers for 9 or 10 hours, simply difficulties with connections between servers or in the case of gmail they usually hide mail to your self. Simply adding an inbox tag to the copy from the sent folder, but not offering it for download.
