Hello: Ever since I installed the last update FF keeps crashing over and over. It will crash on start up, in safe mode and even when I can open FF it will crash when I click on a link inside a page, when I try to open another tab and under other various situations that I cannot recall at the moment.

I have done what I can to resolve the issue. I have used FF ever since I can recall and have all the tabs I need w/in FF in order to run my business. So, I would hate to have to switch to a new browser. I really hope we can resolve this crashing issue.

I am not tech savvy and so I don't think I can be of much help to you but I do wish I could help. Sorry. Well, I need to get to working and so I suppose I will have to set aside FF for the time being. bummer.

You mentioned trying different things, but not what they were, so apologies for any duplicate suggestions.

When Firefox crashes, it usually records information about what was happening at that moment. Perhaps you recall seeing the Mozilla Crash Reporter dialog? You can submit crash data to Mozilla and share it with forum volunteers to see whether it points to the solution. Please check the last section of the support article "Firefox Crashes" for steps to get those crash report IDs, and then post some of the recent ones here.

If you are not getting the Mozilla Crash Reporter but instead getting a Windows crash dialog or the dreaded blue screen of death, then Firefox might not have that data.

In case your Firefox program files got damaged during the update, you could try the following type of reinstall that does not touch your settings files. Important: do NOT uninstall Firefox first. That is not needed.

Clean Reinstall

(1) Download a fresh installer for Firefox 36.0.1 from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.)

(2) Exit out of Firefox.

(3) Rename the program folder

(64-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files (x86)\OldFirefox

(32-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files\OldFirefox

(4) Run the installer you downloaded in #1. It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

Any improvement?

Note: Some plugins may exist only in that OldFirefox folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:

  • \OldFirefox\Plugins
  • \OldFirefox\browser\plugins

This is the next step;

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?
