In the past, when I clicked on "Bookmarks" to save a URL, it asked me if I wanted it saved to the Bookmarks Toolbar or Bookmarks Menu. Now, it doesn't ask me anything. I hit the 'Bookmark This Page' choice when I open Bookmarks and then the Bookmarks screen disappears and nothing is saved.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

You can also check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.
