How can I check if the program "youtube video and audio downloader 0.3.5 by Inbasic has any malware. When I go to download it has the string https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/downloads/latest/413644/addon-413644-latest.xpi?src=userprofile

I'm so nervous about downloading anything for fear of getting my browser hijacked or worse as it has already happened twice. Any advice on this program or if there is a similar youtube download program that is known to be squeaky clean?

I too have youtube video and audio downloader 0.3.5 by Inbasic on FF but haven't used it much if at all. Today, Avast gave me a warning (presumably a recent Malware DB update) that this product has very poor rating. My two main concerns are a possible trojan and adware popups - at the moment I only get those on one site, Pirate Bay, but they're devilishly hard to get rid of.

Avast & a couple of other malware utilities have not come up with any trojans, but I saw a EULA (on another board, possibly not the same product) that stated explicitly the software would share information on the internet, presumably tunneling thru the firewall. Would malware utilitie detect that as a Trojan, or would they assume I installed it intentionally? How would they know?

Are add-ons that come up on the FF add-ons manager>get addons guaranteed safe by Mozilla?

Hello,

If you are trying to download videos, i will suggest you to use DownloadHelper add-on or DownThemAll. I have been using both of them and they works pretty well.

I figured it out. I can use sound recorder that comes with windows 8.1. By changing the line-in from the mike to the sound board I get sound from the youtube videos which is all I'm looking for. I try real hard not to download any add-ons if I can avoid it.
