In Firefox 30 in Windows 8.1, the transparency of the Tab bar is strong so that windows title bars behind it are nearly fully visible. This looks awful and at times makes hitting the right tab or the closing X very difficult. How can this be solved?

And no, I do not want to install some special theme or Addon or hack the UI's CSS if it can be avoided. I just want my browser to work out of the box.

You can try the Classic Theme Restorer extension.

  • You can check out the settings of the CTR extension via its Options/Preferences button on the "Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" page.

Other possibilities are using a Persona (lightweight theme).

Do you really tell me that I'd have to install an extra extenion just to be able to do what should be a basic feature (reading the titles of inactive tabs). On every single Win 8 Machine that I own or mange? No way. This is not a solution, this is barely a workaround.

To quote myself: "And no, I do not want to install some special theme or Addon or hack the UI's CSS if it can be avoided. I just want my browser to work out of the box."
