Hello,

Go to your about:permissions page and check the passwords settings there. You can see if there are also any saved passwords that show up on that page.

If that doesn't help, do you have an external application that might have this kind of feature? Check your list of install programs in Windows - Control Panel > Programs and Features to see if you can find anything related to a password manager.

Thank you for your suggestions. I did check and it shows they are blocked but they are still being saved. I do not have any software that saves passwords but did check just in case I was mistaken.

Lets try completely reinstalling Firefox. First, download a new copy of Firefox at:

• https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/

If bookmarks are the only thing you want to backup, see Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks.

Otherwise if there are other things you want to backup, please see:

• Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles ; and
• Recovering important data from an old profile

After backing up your essential information, uninstall Firefox from your Windows Control Panel > Programs and Features list. After uninstalling from the control panel, delete the Firefox folder:

• C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\

Go to your profiles folder for Firefox by opening the Start menu in Windows, and searching for "%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\". Make sure that the important information from your profile is backed up using the articles I posted as a reference, and then delete your profile in that folder.

Install the copy of Firefox you downloaded from the Mozilla website. After installing Firefox, if you are copying over settings from your old profile, use the Recovering important data from an old profile article as a reference but be careful not to copy over everything as you may copy over something that was causing your issue before.

If you are only importing your bookmarks from the HTML file, please see the article Import Bookmarks from an HTML file. Set your preferences so that passwords aren't saved, and see if that fixes it.

If the reinstall and new profile doesn't help, then that once again points to an external application saving your passwords. In that situation, try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

• MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
• AdwCleaner (for more info, see this alternate AdwCleaner download page)
• Microsoft Safety Scanner
• Anti-Rootkit Utility - TDSSKiller
• Hitman Pro
• ESET Online Scanner

And if they find anything, change all of your passwords.

Details like websites remembering you (log you in automatically) are stored in a cookie. You can remove the cookies from the website to make the website forget you.

Are you automatically reopening tabs and windows from the previous session via session restore?

• Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

Firefox stores cookies used in tabs that are currently open in the sessionstore.js file as part of saved session data, so those cookies will be restored if Firefox is closed without first closing these tabs.

You can set the browser.sessionstore.privacy_level pref to 2 (never) or 1 (non-HTTPS) on the about:config page to disable saving cookies via session restore in the sessionstore.js file.
