I use an application called HOt or NOT that required me to turn on my browser location. This has nothing to do with Tracking cookies, but an actual GPS location that mozzilla has installed or built into Firefox. How do I turn this off?

If you approve a site learning your location, Firefox can query some online services for information about your location. For example, Google can provide some location information based on nearby wireless network names.

You can block all sites by default. Perhaps the simplest place to do that is Firefox's Permissions Manager. To load that, type or paste about:permissions in the address bar and press Enter.

The "Default Permissions for All Sites" should load. Here you can set a global Block.

Then if you return to Hot or Not, you can turn off its individual exception, if there is one, using the Permissions panel of the Page Info dialog. You can call that up using any of these:

  • right-click a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Permissions
  • (menu bar) Tools menu > Page Info > Permissions
  • click the padlock or globe icon to the left of the site address > More Information > Permissions

The "Access Your Location" permission is near the top.

I think that should clean it up.

You can inspect and manage permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab via these steps:

  • Click the "Site Identity Button" (globe/padlock) on the location/address bar
  • Click "More Information" to open "Tools > Page Info" with the Security tab selected

Go to the Permissions tab (Tools > Page Info > Permissions) to check the permissions for the domain in the currently selected tab.
