mailbox does not open

Thunderbird automatically updated to the newest version 38.7.2 today (4-11-2016) and now none of my mailboxes or folders open. I can find mail if I search, and it will open if I click in the search box, but it does not otherwise appear. Address book will not open, and tools/options will not open. Basically, nothing is working. I am running Windows 7. I am also running Lightning add-on but cannot disable any add-ons either to see if this is affecting the new version.

Start Thunderbird in safe mode. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird Uninstall Lightning via the Add-Ons Manager. Restart Thunderbird. Re-install Lightning in case it's needed.
