I'm using Windows 10 and Firefox 47.0.1 and 48 always worked without problems. Now after installing the Windows Subsystem for Linux Firefox is not able to startup and immediately crashes. I tried safe-mode but it did not help.

After uninstalling the subsystem for Linux everything worked fine again.

Not sure what the problem is, can anybody help?

Thanks, Gregor

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>
(Mac=Options)
key, and then starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh).

Is the problem still there?

While still in Safe Mode,

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP in front of the numbers/letters, click it to Submit them.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

If you can't get Firefox to open, you will have to do this the hard way. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mozillacrashreporter Open the file browser / explorer on your computer. Note: You may have to enable Show Hidden Folders / Files. Enter this in the address bar;

Windows: %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted Win 7/Vista: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted Win XP/2000: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Crash Reports\submitted

Mac OS: /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Crash Reports/submitted Linux: /home/<username>/.mozilla/firefox/Crash Reports/submitted

Copy the last 5-7 Recent File Names in the folder. Post the information in the reply box below.

The crash reports contain link to a bugzilla entry regarding ESET. I use ESET but interestingly on my system the crash only happens when the Windows Subsystem for Linux is installed.

What protection programs are you using? Update them.

Like I said above I use ESET. I have the latest version installed. Still I don't understand why the installation of the Windows Subsystem for Linux is causing the problem..

It does seem like a issue with ESET on WIn10 especially according to https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1229252

So you are saying the only change before the crashes was installation of the Windows Subsystem for Linux on Win10 ?

Well I installed Windows Subsystem for Linux and then rebooted. After reboot Firefox crashed immediately during launch. I tried various things but nothing helped. I then uninstalled WSL and rebooted again. Everything worked fine. I tried to install again, reboot and Firefox crashed again, after uninstall and reboot it was fine again.
