Add Bookmark Here2 is Legacy. Upon reboot, it will no longer work. I use it to place into my fast dial---about 30 fast dial items, constantly changing. I need something to replace it.

Someone just posted that the Firefox 56.0.2 update breaks this extension in the extensions's reviews: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/add-bookmark-here-2/reviews/

When I look inside the extension, it lists:

  • minVersion 55.0
  • maxVersion 55.*

But this is not new, this is since July, so I don't know what is going on, sorry.

If this extension is essential to your life online, you may wish to switch from the regular stable release to the extended support release. That's Firefox 52 with security patches. The "ESR" release was created at the request for large organizations seeking greater stability, but lots of individuals run it, from those needing the Java plugin for their favorite games, to those running XP and Vista.

More info: https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/organizations/faq/

Some files in a Firefox 56 profile are not compatible with Firefox 52, but I think they should be regenerated in the old format. I haven't tried that myself.

Oh, for Firefox 52, you'll need to install the previous release of ABH2 from the Versions page: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/add-bookmark-here-2/versions/

This carries the warning "be careful with older versions" and I think it's the one I'm currently about to lose.

I'm a little familiar with ESR versions---I've heard of them. But, isn't version 57 due out in November 2017---why is it killing all the great Legacy add-ons?

Please remind again of the great version 57 and how it will cure all ills?

Sorry!

Java is not secure and that was what all Legacy Extensions were based on. Also the W3C.org (World Wide Web Consortium) makes all the rules for browsers and for web pages. If they say can not use, you can not use.

As for Firefox 57 Quantum all Legacy Extensions will no longer work. If you like a Extension email the Developer and stress your support and maybe make a donation for it's continued development.

Or start looking for a similar Extension. There possibly is.

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

You can check the Browser Console for messages about this extension to see if that give more information.

Java? I don't have Java installed in any computer that I own.

I got rid of, since there was always a new version and I didn't need it. One less thing to worry about.

ABH2 uses Java?

If you're running the ESR release, the latest version isn't going to work, so no choice there.

I think that's probably covered in articles elsewhere during the past two or more years that it has been in the works.

It's painful to lose extensions which could do anything Firefox itself could do; extensions now will be much more limited in their ability to affect the interface. But some capabilities are being re-added over time based on demand, so perhaps the most crucial features will return at some point next year. What are the features of ABH2 that Firefox handles poorly (or not at all) for your needs?

cor-el, I'm afraid that's above my computer skills, but it was interesting to look. In another lifetime...

jscher2000,

I know why FireFox is doing it---privacy and I appreciate their doing, plus speed. I forgot for a moment. But what of HTTPS Everywhere? That's Legacy, too.

I'm running version 56.0.2 First, it ABP that didn't work in 56.0 I would like to know how ABH2 is running on, b/c there was a pause on starting Firefox to update it to version 56.0.2 this morning.

What's ABH2 running on?

The WebExtensions version is in testing for Firefox beta (57) and Firefox Nightly (58) users. It appears the last updated was October 4th: https://www.eff.org/files/https-everywhere-test/index.html I don't know when that will move over to the Add-ons site.

The internal compatibility information of the latest version is Firefox 55 only. But in your experience, it worked in Firefox 56.0 and Firefox 56.0.1, and not on Firefox 56.0.2. That and the review I posted about are all I know.

I was about to make an image of ABH2 with Firefox screenshots, but it says normal webpage, screenshots won't work.

What I don't understand is, it already converted to 56.0.2 this AM. But it says restarting will disable it. It's Legacy.

What ABH2 running on, if it doesn't run on 56.0.2? It's running right now on 56.0.2

Sorry, I can't explain it.

Thank you for trying. I appreciate it.
