How can I get rid of Duck Duck as a search engine!!!! I go to preferences under Firefox and make Google my default search engine but Duck Duck takes over .
I am at the point of never using Firefox again!!!!! I have been using FF for over 10-15 years. I resent very very much that I cannot use Google as my search engine anymore. For the last month, Duck Duck has taken over and whatever I do Google does not work anymore. I even took my computer to an Apple store to fix this problem. Apple told me to contact FFox because they only work on Apple software and they suggested I use Safari. I have never used Safari in the 15 plus years I have used Apple products but I have started to use it because it "ALLOWS" me to use Google to search which FF does not. I am EXTREMELY angry to not be able to control my own computer and FF is the software that is causing this.
This is my last try to resolve this problem and if you can't help me I will never use FF again. I am 70 years old and normally never get mad. Please help me.
Thanks, David Traub

Hello, jscher2000,
THANK YOU!!! Your solution fixed my problem. I really didn't know what Extensions and Add-ons were. When I have some time I will Google both of them to be educated. I removed all the Extentions and got rid of all the one click sites except for Google.
Now it works. Thanks again

Please go to 3 Bar Menu (far right) Click then Options then Search Change Default search Engine to what you want to use. Move down to the list and Click Go Duck Go (who's results are from Google) and then Click Remove at bottom.
Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Hi David, don't give up.
I want to address two different things:
(1) Startup page or Home page (2) Search engine used when you submit searches through Firefox's address bar or search bar
You should be able to control both of these, but sometimes your selections are overridden by add-ons. Let's check the Add-ons page.
Extensions Check
Either:
- Command+Shift+a (Windows: Ctrl+Shift+a)
- "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
- type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return
In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions. Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. Do you remember installing these?
Any system extensions that Firefox installs on its own are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Anything suspicious, duck-related, or mentioning search? If in doubt, disable or remove.
Settings Check
As always, you'll use the Preferences page to make sure that your startup/home page is what you want it to be, and your default search engine is Google. These articles have the steps:
Can you regain control?
Hello, Pkshadow and thanks for your help.
When I went to the 3 bar Menu Options was not there. I have the latest version of FF 57. I went to perferances (sic), put Google as default, went to Duck Duck and removed. It did not work. I cant even put www.google.com into the long internet space to the left of search. Immediately goes to DD. I don't care that DD is google!!
jscher2000 has just sent me a solution which I will try.
