How do I see which emails have been downloaded for offline viewing and how do I track the progress of my inbox being downloaded?

Background: I just started using Thunderbird because I needed a mail client that allowed me to have ALL of my emails downloaded on to my computer. However, it has been a bit confusing to use so I have a few questions. As a side note, I am using IMAP since I need to have this account accessible from various other computers.

1) Can Thunderbird download emails (by this I mean the full email, not just the thing for searching it that IMAP does)? 2) If this is possible, how do I see the progress of all of my emails being downloaded? 3) How do I see only the emails which have been fully downloaded (like not the IMAP thing for search)? 4) If the answer to question 1 is no, does anyone know of a desktop mail client that CAN download all of one's emails for offline viewing? Thanks.

As I understand it, if you set Thunderbird to synchronize folders, all content in those folders will be downloaded and stored locally. In this context, "downloaded" means copied, not moved.

To be able to see a folder for synchronization you need to subscribe to it first.

That should be enough. But if you want a message to be persistent, that is, remain on your PC even after deleting it from the server, make a copy in the Local Folders account in Thunderbird.

Subscribe is found in the menu, under File. Synchronization is set up per account under Account Settings.

As to monitoring progress, the only indicator I know of is what appears in the status bar.
