OK so I have gone from using Quantum to an older version which is ESR Version 52.7.3 because we need this specific version to run some software we use. I need to import my bookmarks i created from quantum into ESR Version 52.7.3 however I gett "Unable to process backup file". I know I am going from using the latest version to a quite old version but is there anyway around this? cheers

Hi, are the bookmarks HTML or .json ?

You can't downgrade a profile used in Firefox 56+ to Firefox 52 ESR because a lot of files got changed (username and password and certificates and local storage). You will have to create a new profile.

If you use Sync then best is to disconnect Sync temporarily during troubleshooting.

If "Verify Integrity" on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page cannot repair places.sqlite then remove all places.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder. Firefox will rebuild places.sqlite and restore the bookmarks from a recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Thanks a lot, this worked, I removed the places.sqlite file.
