why can't I sort articles based on latest hour?

When I put a topic to search on, I then go to sort on latest hour report and all articles are given back. The range of the articles go from weeks to months. this did not used to happen. If there was nothing in the last hour, nothing would be displayed. Same goes if I sort articles posted today. I see all articles and not sorted in latest to oldest.
