Recover Firefox password without losing bookmarks and saved logins

more options

I've been using Firefox to store logins and passwords and manage bookmarks on one computer for 10 years+. I always just opened a browser, clicked "tools" then went to my saved passwords. Today I got a new computer and wanted to sync with my Firefox from the old computer. The old computer is asking for a Firefox password, which I don't have (I've tried everything I can think of but I set it 10 years ago). I searched for help online and tried setting a "Master Password." Now, despite entering the EXACT password I selected, it is saying it's wrong and I'm locked out of all of my saved logins on the original computer as well.

I have a secondary email but nothing seems to generate a recovery email (yes, I am stupid and didn't enable recovery key and now I cannot do it because I don't have the password). Is there any way for me to get back into my saved logins? I am using the old computer to work from home and cannot complete any work now. The company sent me a brand new laptop, but all of my logins and passwords are on the old computer tha now wants a master password.

If I sync my phone, from the sync tab, will it require the Master Password or might that allow me access to my saved logins and also to change the password?

No other device should require the Master Password of another device, they are all set individually.

But I suggest doing it on the desktop in a new profile since life is so much easier with a real keyboard and a big screen.

I created the new profile and launched it; I see the new account. Can you please tell me what exactly you mean by "Connect to your Firefox Account and allow Firefox to Sync"? It's asking for an email address — is that the one from my original Firefox account or should I use a different one?

Just to clarify, a profile is not an account, it is just a separate Firefox data folder. So you can connect both the new profile AND your old profile to the same Firefox Account. In fact, that's necessary if you want the data to Sync over.

To connect to the new profile to your Firefox account, you can use the little "person" icon on the main toolbar, or "Sign in to Firefox" on the main menu. IMPORTANT: Do not reset any passwords.

It's not accepting my OS password I use to sign into Windows. It's not accepting the password for the email account I use. I'm kind of back where I started with no way to log into my Firefox account

What is the purpose of my secondary email addresses if I can't get a code or link to reset my password?

Your Firefox Account password is probably not the same as your Windows login, it's the password you used to sign in to this support site using your Firefox Account. Or did your Firefox do that for you using a saved password that is now inaccessible because of the Master Password?

Okay, it does sound like you are stuck until you can find an old logins.json file that wasn't encrypted with a Master Password.

Yes, Firefox logged me in to this support page. So how do I find an older.json file? And I only added the Master Password today so why why wouldn't the one from May work? I can't even manually log into websites where I know the password but they were on the saved logins list... I try to enter my password but the Master Password pop-up box appears and won't let me log in.

Can you try copying the May logins.json and key4.db files to the new profile folder? You would open that from inside the new profile instead of your regular one.
