I use yahoo mail and have already updated thunderbird to the new required settings. I have set both server settings and smtp to OAuth2 and cookies are enabled. However, I do not get notifications for emails landing in my subfolders (I have set yahoo filters), unless I check inside the subfolders. This happens for days and will only show when I look for myself. Before yahoo stopped supporting third-party applications, I used to get notified.

I also get the following message very often, but I don't know if it is related, but it was also not happening before the new yahoo server requirements. server imap.mai.yahoo.com has disconnected The server may have gone down or there may be a network problem

I use imap and TB 78.4 on windows 10.

Check the box and see if it makes a difference. It's not a new setting, but if the account was removed and re-added, the setting may have reverted to the default, unchecked, setting.

Brilliant! Thanks a lot. I'll see how it goes.

The disconnect message seems entirely due to a problem at the server end.

If you right-click a subfolder, Properties, is the 'When getting messages...' box checked?

No, it isn't. Should it be? I've never seen this setting before. Is it new?

Just an update:

It is working fine ever since I ticked the suggested box, I get notified for emails landing in subfolders.

As for the other issue, which is most probably unrelated, I changed the max-number-of-server-connections-to-cache from 5 to 4, and I don't get anymore the "server has disconnected" message. Setting is under advanced account settings in server settings.

So, thanks once more. I'm gonna mark this issue as solved.

Hi, I had exactly the same problem with my Yahoo! Mail on Thunderbird. I solved my issue by lowering the maximum number of connections to cache (it was at 5 by default).

Since a lot of people seem to be having this problem (a quick search on DuckDuckGo shows many results), could Thunderbird automatically lower the number of connections when a new Yahoo! account has been set up please?
