Strange text problem since update

Since the last Thunderbird update, every other item in any window, like Inbox or Trash, will disappear when it should be highlighted. For instance, if I have a list of emails to delete, and hit ctrl-A to select all, every other item will become invisible, while the others show correctly in white type on a black background. In the Local Folders list, if I click on Inbox to view emails, the Inbox text disappears, it is still there, just not visible.

I'm running Thunderbird 78.10.0 32 bit on Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.

Any ideas when is going on?

Does it look correct in safe mode (hold Shift when launching TB)? What is the Windows theme, Classic, Basic or Aero?
