thunderbird 78 password fails to login to imap gmail after password change on both systems
Thunderbird login fails after password changed in imap Gmail. It stays in a loop asking for yur emal address over and over even though it is correct. This darn (for lack of a much stronger word) has been around on and off for over 6 years. Coming and going and never being fixed or documented why it happens. It appears that Google knows that Thunderbird' UI is superior to their UI, and want to force Thunderbird users to switch to their crappy UI. I changed my password in Gmail based on Googles recommendation. What a BIG mistake. "If it ain't broken don't try to fix it". Then I changed it on Thunderbird (I AM NOT POP, BUT IMAP), Linux mint 18.3 cinnamon. The EXACT SAME login that fails on Thunderbird works perfect on direct login to native Gmail. At this point I'm about ready to move to Yahoo email. If you do not know the exact answer/reason please do not give me suggestions to try this try that. I have been a software developer for over 30 years. It is rejecting my email address with out any error message only clearing it and asking for it again? Thunderbird was working for over 10 years on my Linux system. The ONLY change was password on Gmail and Thunderbird. This issue is Almost impossible to happen without some Nefarious reason by Google wanting to block Thunderbird users. As an aside; Why does Thunderbird use it's own internal browser to login?

Remove the passwords from Saved Passwords in Edit/Preferences/Privacy & Security, and in the same section check the box to accept cookies. Check that the authentication on the incoming and outgoing is OAuth2, then restart TB and enter the account password in the OAuth window when asked.
