How do I restore the connection between aol account (verizon.net) and Thunderbird? Thunderbird stopped accepting password on its own. Have tried changing the incoming authentication method for pop.verizon.net (SSL/TLS port 995) from Normal Password to 0Auth2 (matching that for smtp.aol.com outgoing option at port 465) without success. Error: "The server does not support the selected authentication method. Please change....." Help!!

I can see the messages on Android phone (under email AND aol, annoyingly) but want to continue using the Thunderbird structure on computer.

I suggest you consult with the boffins at AOL as to the correct authentication method to use. You probably need an application password for Thunderbird to use. But they set the requirements to connect.

per this post: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1343718

In AOL webmail, click on "Options" in the upper right, under your email address. Go to Account Info Go to Security (list on the left) Scroll all the way down to "Manage App Passwords" Generate a code for "other" by inputting "Thunderbird" Copy and save it to clipboard.

Go back to Tbird. Click on 3 bars in upper right, then "options" Then "privacy and security" Scroll down to "saved passwords" Delete the old ones. Attempt to receive emails. When prompted, give Tbird the new password. Make sure to check "manage with password manager," or something like that. Then do the same for sending an email. Check to make sure the "saved passwords" have one for incoming & one for outgoing.
