Just a couple of days ago, Google calendar no longer syncs with Thunderbird. I didn't change any settings and it looks like I can't even re-add the Google calendar events it should sync to.

How do you access the Google Calendar? Are you using an add-on, or straight via CalDAV?

I have the same issue and I'm using an Add-on. The thing is, since the first time I synced my calendar, nothing ever changed in Thunderbird! I manipulate events in the calendar app on my phone and Thunderbird isn't synced at all

I am using Ubuntu, so my TB was automatically updated as part of a "system update". The update did not include Lightning, however, which had to be downloaded separately, not from Mozilla but from Ubuntu (xul-ext-lightning).

Once lightning was back in place, I saw all my old calendars and contact list, but none of them were being synchronised. In Add-ons I saw that the extensions I had previously used for synchronising are no longer supported. So I removed them. I found one extension that is supported, "provider for Google calendar" and installed it. Still no synchronising. So I kicked out all my calendars and did: File > New > Calendar > Google calendar, entered my google credentials and voila. Everything works beautifully.
