Two days ago I encountered this problem. Each time my PC would start, FireFox would open itself on it's own and display the home page. I tried scanning the system with Avast! Antivirus and MalwareBytes AntiMalware, but nothing has been found. Could it be that some of the add-ons are forcing Firefox to do so, or do I have some sort of malware that my AV programs can't find?

Check the startup folders on your computer to see if there is a shortcut that is launching Firefox . On Windows Xp there are two locations to check:

  • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
  • C:\Documents and Settings\LoginName\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

I looked under both locations, and found nothing. When I typed in msconfig in Start>Run..., I checked System Configuration Utility, and found one process that puzzled me... http://img821.imageshack.us/img821/3281/wuththehell.jpg I unchecked it and closed the window after saving, but didnt restart. Later on I decided to take a look at it again, and when I opened the window, the process was gone.

Actually, nevermind, I think I solved the matter. Once the mysterious process disappeared, I restarted PC and everything seems to be working normally.
